Where on Earth are the world’s best whisky bars and pubs?
Join me on a whistlestop tour around the world, discovering the best dedicated whisky pubs and bars. Starting from the home of Scotch, picking up an imaginary jet stream, and travelling west to east around the globe (sort of). ✈️
Bertie’s Bar at The Fife Arms Hotel – Braemar, Scotland
More a whisky library than a bar, Bertie’s Bar at The Fife Arms Hotel boasts more than 390 whiskies, arranged by flavour profile, which the patrons can browse and select at their own leisure. This sumptuous little bar is run by ‘librarians’ rather than bartenders, who use their extensive knowledge to educate, entertain and serve.
SCOTCH at The Balmoral Hotel – Edinburgh, Scotland
With a selection of more than 500 Scotch whiskies to choose from, this world-class whisky bar in the heart of Edinburgh is a must-visit. Set in luxurious warm oak panelled surroundings, the kilted whisky ambassadors guide you through the selection from each of the five whisky-making regions.
The Palace Bar – Dublin, Ireland
This world-famous 200-year-old pub is known not only for its effervescent atmosphere but for its extensive range of more than 100 Irish whiskeys. This intimate little pub provides a snapshot of a by-gone era with its gilded mirrors and rare original Victorian ‘snug’.
Milroy's of Soho, London, England
London's oldest independent whisky bar, Milroy's of Soho is a haven for those seeking a touch of old-world charm which boasts a vast selection of Scotch and world whiskies as well as rare distillery bottlings. Make sure you visit the secret bar downstairs hidden behind a bookshelf.
Whiskyplaza, Hamburg, Germany
Whiskyplaza in Hamburg, Germany, is a renowned destination for whisky lovers but is almost as well known for its food. It boasts an extensive collection of rare and fine whiskies, and the well-trained knowledgeable staff provide expert guidance.
Quaich Bar, Singapore
Located in the South Beach Quarter, Quaich Bar in Singapore is a whisky lover's paradise and was the first dedicated whisky bar in Singapore. The bar's name itself pays homage to the traditional Scottish drinking vessel, and its selection spans the entire whisky spectrum, from Scotch, Irish, Japanese and Bourbon.
The Baxter Inn, Sydney, Australia
Nestled in the heart of Sydney, The Baxter Inn is an underground haven for whisky lovers, run by hugely knowledgeable staff. With over 630 whiskies in stock, this dimly lit, speakeasy-style gem is known for its relaxed vibe and 10-metre-long library-style bar, complete with scrolling ladders.
The Flatiron Room, New York City, USA
With its plush leather seats and nightly live jazz performances, The Flatiron Room in the NoMAD area of New York City provides a luxurious setting for whisky enthusiasts. The extensive whisky menu features rare and vintage bottles from around the world.
